part of today's reading at mass...
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given you besides.
Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself.

twentyseven.

You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth
I have to go, I have to go
Your hair was long when we first met

Samson went back to bed
Not much hair left on his head
He ate a slice of wonder bread and went right back to bed
And history books forgot about us and the bible didn't mention us
And the bible didn't mention us, not even once

You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the stars came fallin' on our heads
But they're just old light, they're just old light
Your hair was long when we first met

Samson came to my bed
Told me that my hair was red
Told me I was beautiful and came into my bed
Oh I cut his hair myself one night
A pair of dull scissors in the yellow light
And he told me that I'd done alright
And kissed me 'til the mornin' light, the mornin' light
And he kissed me 'til the mornin' light

Samson went back to bed
Not much hair left on his head
Ate a slice of wonderbread and went right back to bed
Oh, we couldn't bring the columns down
Yeah we couldn't destroy a single one
And history books forgot about us
And the bible didn't mention us, not even once

You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first

Love life and life will love you back. Love people and they will love you back.

Keep your mind in a constant state of openness.

You pile up enough tomorrows and you'll be left with nothing but a bunch of empty yesterdays. I don't know about you, but I'd like to make today worth remembering.

Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Life is a balance of holding on and letting go.

Live life passionately. Laugh until your belly hurts. Love unconditionally.

Fearless is not the absence of fear. It's not being completely unafraid. Fearless is having fears, having doubts... lots of them. Fearless is living in spite of those things that scare you to death. Fearless is falling madly in love, even though you've been hurt before. It's fearless to have faith that someday things will change. Fearless is having the courage to say goodbye to someone who only hurts you, even if you can't breathe without them. And when someone apologizes to you enough times for things they'll never stop doing, it's fearless to stop believing them. It's fearless to say 'you're not sorry' and walk away. Loving someone despite what people this is fearless. Allowing yourself to cry on the bathroom floor is fearless. Letting go is fearless. Then, moving on and being alright... that's fearless too. But no matter what life throws at you, you have to believe in it. You have to believe in the love stories and prince charmings and happily ever after. Love is fearless.

If you're my boy, swirl me around your room with feeling
And as we twirl, the glow in the dark stars on your ceiling
Will shine for us, as love sweeps over the room
'Cause we tend to make each other blush, you make me blush

Having a fantastic week already, and it just keeps getting better!!

seventeen.

bombed my history exam but oh well..tis life.
its beautiful outside today..definitely going for a run after class.
then service at JFON tonight..i can't wait to see everyone.
and only two weeks until spring break..i'm soooo excited!

[mumford and sons-after the storm]
And after the storm,
I run and run as the rains come
And I look up, I look up,
on my knees and out of luck,
I look up.

Night has always pushed up day
You must know life to see decay
But I won't rot, I won't rot
Not this mind and not this heart,
I won't rot.

And I took you by the hand
And we stood tall,
And remembered our own land,
What we lived for.

And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

And now I cling to what I knew
I saw exactly what was true
But oh no more.
That's why I hold,
That's why I hold with all I have.
That's why I hold.

I will die alone and be left there.
Well I guess I'll just go home,
Oh God knows where.
Because death is just so full and mine so small.
Well I'm scared of what's behind and what's before.

And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

fifteen - point - five

I'm in History class..Don't feel like paying attention..So I'll blog again..

Music. Lyrics. Melody.
I love listening to music, reading the lyrics, and dancing to the melody. There is so much to learn from the beats of our society..about our values, our talents, and our emotions. Take a moment and look beyond the words of the next song you hear. Listen for more, search for more. You'll be surprised by what you find...

Sometimes I lay under the moon
And I thank God I'm breathin'
Then I pray don't take me soon
'Cause I am here for a reason

Sometimes in my tears I drown
But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds
I know someday it'll all turn around because

All my life I been waitin' for
I been prayin' for, for the people to say
That we don't want to fight no more
They'll be no more wars
And our children will play, one day

It's not about win or lose 'cause we all lose
When they feed on the souls of the innocent blood
Drenched pavement keep on movin'
Though the waters stay ragin'

And in this life you may lose your way
It might drive you crazy
But don't let it phase you, no way

Sometimes in my tears I drown
But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds
I know someday it'll all turn around because

All my life I been waitin' for
I been prayin' for, for the people to say
That we don't want to fight no more
They'll be no more wars
And our children will play, one day

One day this all will change
Treat people the same
Stop with the violence down with the hate
One day we'll all be free and proud
To be under the same sun
Singing songs of freedom like
[Matisyahu-One Day]

four. teen.

happy valentines day..

There I was again tonight forcing laughter, faking smiles
Same old tired, lonely place
Walls of insincerity
Shifiting eyes and vancancy vanished when I saw your face
All I can say is it was enchanting to meet you

Your eyes whispered "have we met?"
Across the room your silhouette starts to make it's way to me
The playful conversation starts
Counter all your quick remarks like passing notes in secrecy
And it was enchanting to meet you
All I can say is I was enchanted to meet you

This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you

The lingering question kept me up
2am, who do you love?
I wonder till I'm wide awake
Now I'm pacing back and forth, wishing you were at my door
I'd open up and you would say,
It was enchanting to meet you
All I know is I was enchanted to meet you

This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
This night is flawless, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, dancing around all alone
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you

This is me praying that this was the very first page
Not where the story line ends
My thoughts will echo your name until I see you again
These are the words I held back as I was leaving too soon
I was enchanted to meet you
Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you
Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you

This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
This night is flawless, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, dancing around all alone
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you

Please don't be in love with someone else

thirteen.

today is thirteen random things i've
especially learned the past six months:

live one day at a time..the future will
figure itself out, so focus on today.

love yourself: inside and out

don't worry about what others think or say..
they have their opinions, but thats what they are..opinions.

you can't make someone love you,
but you can be someone to be loved.

spend all the quality time you can with family.
they're your backbone.

it's not what you have in life..
..its whom you have.

two people can look at the same exact
thing/experience/etc but see it completely differently.

forgiving and forgetting are two completely different things.

do what you love.
you'll always be happy.

grades aren't everything and college
is more than learning the books..it's about learning life.

change encourages growth..embrace it.

going to late-night mass is
the best time to relax and relieve stress.

enjoy life and cherish it..
..remember the best times, the good times,
the bad times, and worse times.
because each one has made you a better person,
taught you a lesson,
and formed you into the person you are now.

lucky eleven

Last night our floor had the opportunity to sit down with Ruben Garcia, one of five founders of the Annunciation House. Almost 33 years ago, Ruben helped open a house for immigrants to stay once they enter El Paso and work towards becoming situated in the States.

The mission statement of the Annunciation House is: In a Gospel spirit of service and solidarity, we accompany the migrant, homeless, and economically vulnerable peoples of the border region through hospitality, advocacy, and education. We place ourselves among these poor so as to live our faith and transform our understanding of what constitutes more just relationships between peoples, countries, and economies. [http://annunciationhouse.org/]

Hearing Ruben's stories really inspired me and reiterated the experiences I have had through my service/immersion opportunities. One moment that really sticks out when looking back is meeting Santos, one of the residents at Oasis Rehabilitation Center in El Paso. Hearing Santos talk about growing up in the city with such influential traditions was so neat. We were able to learn a great deal from Santos-including how to dance!

So here's my leaving thought for the day:
Look around. Learn about the world. Find your passion. Release that passion and let it shine. Don't wait for tomorrow. Tomorrow never comes. There is no day but today.

Thursday, February 10, 2011

ten.

wherever your passion is,
there is your heart.

my mission: discover my passions. i realize they will be ever changing, ever evolving, ever expanding. but this will be my goal in life. learn of these passions. act on these passions. love these passions.
ignite my passions.

Also, if you could pray for Baby Matthew that would be fantastic. He contracted RSV and is running a fever today. Rachel will be taking him to the doctor again today for an update, so hopefully it's positive!

nine.

a bit of humor for the day:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzTuOQRTE0I&feature=related
my favorite part?
rock out like the plane is going down down and there are 120 people aboard and 121 parachutes..

....Random fact....
....Walt Disney was the voice of Mickey Mouse for more than 20 years....

{Now some inspirational lyrics}
[Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
So make the best of this test, and don't ask why
It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.]
{So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth it was worth all the while.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.}
[It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.]
{GreenDay-GoodRiddance}

and no post is complete without a quote..
"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear."

i will do this.

eight.

You can teach a student a lesson for a day;
but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity,
he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.

Clay Bedford

In my Justice and Peace Studies class, we've been talking about the nature and causes of poverty. Today the topic of where our tax money is distributed came up. I realize that for some people this is a touchy topic, but what frustrated me was my lack of knowledge on the topic. One of my really good friends goes to a military university and I talked to him after class today to see his input on tax money for anti-poverty programs and military forces. I realized that my knowledge of so many aspects of our economy, government, military, etc is lacking and that my desire to learn more about them is increasing.
The only difficulty I have with this is that Creighton I receive an amazing education, but many of the classes I take are immensely impacted by the Jesuit values of the university. I feel that hearing both sides of the topics would help me make these decisions for myself rather than basing them off the side I am often presented with here. I want to take this challenge, but I don't know where to begin because there are so many different entities, influences, and viewpoints that it tends to become overwhelming. So I guess the logical place to start is by picking up a few newspapers and watch the news more often to study as much as possible about as many topics as possible.

our inner fire goes out.
it is then burst into flame

four.

this is the most magnificent life has ever been.

here is heaven and earth and the brilliant sky in between.
blessed is this life and i'm gonna celebrate being alive.
[Brett Dennen-Blessed]

Life is a celebration, meant to be loved and cherished. These past few months, I have especially come to realize the importance of the lives that impact my every day. My parents, siblings, friends, professors, even strangers. Each person I encounter is a new blessing in my life that I should continually thank God for. He places people in our lives at the right time, in the right place. We may not always realize it at first, but in the end everything will make sense.

It may seem like we know all the answers, but we don't. We must accept this. I am learning to learn. One of my friends and I have been talking about this quite a bit lately..figuring out what it is about ourselves we don't "like" and learning how to "fix" those aspects. But there may not always be a cure, so we have to learn to accept that and live with it. It's part of life.

But sometimes we can feel nothing and everything at once. Anger and love. Failure and success. Sadness and happiness. Disinterest and desire. Well, that's part of life too. We have to deal with those emotions, whether we want to or not.

One way for me to do that is by writing. Although I'm horrible at putting my emotions into words on paper, it is worth a try. Another form of figuring out my emotions is through running. Just going outside and letting it all go. Sometimes I listen to music. Sometimes I listen to my surroundings. Every time I just let go. Reading is also an escape for me. Articles, stories, blogs. Whatever it is, I find this quiet time as an opportunity to contemplate.

Sorry for all this rambling..I'll wrap it up. I guess there's just so much going on in my life right now that I'm trying to sort through and find meaning to. So thank you for sticking with me and supporting me in my rediscovery..there is no way to show the magnitude my gratitude..

three.

change. some people dread it. others live to promote it.

whether you like it or not, change is inevitable. we are constantly moving through life; changing as we transition from stage to stage, situation to situation, emotion to emotion. we should welcome these moments, learn from them, strive for them.

change is how humans find who we are in this world.
but we humans are also how change comes about.

we must make change.
we must promote change.
we must accept change.
we must challenge change.
we must embrace change.

change is how we attain our place.
change forces us to rediscover our place.
change defines our place.

let us accept our challenge to make a change.
big or small. home or abroad. emotion or action.

we can make a change. we will make a change.

two.

hap-pi-ness:
state of well-being characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy

How often do we rush to the store and buy the newer, better, or faster gadget? How many times have we judged people based on the labels of their clothes?  How has it become so easy for us to be so caught up in these material things of life?

Our society has a mentality that these things will bring us happiness and success. But when we take a step back and look at the bigger picture, there is so much more to it. Material things tend to weigh us down. I often catch myself stressing out about the material world, just to realize how stupid it is to be doing so.

Moments like that are a reminder to look around me at the beauty of my surroundings. My family, emotions, the stars, friends, nature, strangers, laughing...everything. There's a Chinese proverb that says, "That which is loved is beautiful." So why not love life in general? If we learn to love our world, our life, ourselves in every aspect, we learn beauty. And what is greater than recognizing the true artistry and elegance of the world we inhabit?

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

one.

Don't ask what the world needs.

Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.

Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

Came upon this quote this morning and I absolutely LOVE it.  I struggle with this every day..the world needs so many things in so many different aspects, so learning to find my passion is where my dance of life comes alive.  Creating the passion that allows that excitement for me is what these years of my life are all about.  Learning what I can do with those passions is so intriguing and knowing people who have followed those desires is so extremely admirable.
